Phew! Another eventful
year! Shrey joined Ananya’s
school and is excited with his new friends and at the prospect of bumping
into big sister in the playground. He started learning the violin (with a
generous does of bribes), chess and is showing interest in math. He
continues to be the family’s superhero knowledge repository and his latest
passion is building super hero dens with Magnatiles!
Ananya is continuing
her great work in fifth grade! Her knowledge about Greek mythology improved
thanks to Rick Riordan and the Duke Tip course! (definitely in that order!)
She continues to improve in piano playing and singing. She’s also started
writing stories. Everyone in the family got new bikes this summer and took
a number of long bike rides. Ananya did an 18 mile bike ride on the
Riverfront trail on July 4th! Ananya completed her third Girls
on the run 5K race in 34 minutes, a personal best! Soon she’s going to be
running a 10k! Ananya’s new favorite restaurant
food is Spring rolls and Pad Thai at King and I!
Sundari continued her
work at her lab, published a paper and a letter on female infant mortality
in India in The Lancet! She is well on her way to training for Go St Louis
½ marathon in April of next year.
Sriram
completed his fourth ½ marathon and helped raise around $4000 towards Asha
for Education. He took on more administrative responsibilities at Olin and
had two of his PhD students graduate and get jobs!!
The family took a
number of trips: Columbia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to meet cousin
Pranav, Disneyland during Spring break and California and Hawaii during the
summer. Sundari and the kids had a blast in Hawaii! They are still raving
about their submarine trip and trek to the volcano crater! In California we
met Aniket, the newest addition to the extended
family! Grandma spent two months with us this year. The kids had a great
time singing, playing and doing crafts with Grandma!!
