Outside Access to Restricted Online Resources - Proxy Server

Can I connect to Kopolow Library Resources from remote computers?

Only current Olin students, faculty, and staff may access restricted resources from locations outside of Olin, by license or contract with the database vendors and electronic journal publishers. Although alumni accounts remain active after graduation during a transition period, they are not allowed to access the proxy server.

How do I set up my web browser to use the proxy server?

When you configure your browser to use the proxy server, whenever you request a web page, the request is sent to the proxy server, and the proxy server makes the connection on your behalf. Before it does so, however, you will be asked to provide your username and password.

Unless you are only accessing the sites provided by the Kopolow Library, you will not want your browser to always use the proxy server. We recommend that you install a second browser on your computer so that you can have one configured for normal use and another configured for proxy use.

Instructions are provided for configuring both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator to use the proxy.
