The Olin School has standardized on Dell systems for faculty and staff use. For desktops, the Optiplex 980, and for laptops, the Latitude E6410 and Latitude E4310, are our standard systems.
If you purchase a PC that is not within the recommended Dell Optiplex configuration, it will not be supported and will not be part of any buy back program. However, all non-Optiplex computers purchased before this policy became effective will continue to be supported.
Apple Macintosh computers will continue to be supported for those individuals who require Mac application support. We encourage anyone who is not using any Mac-specific applications to upgrade to a Windows workstation when appropriate. At this time, we are not providing any support for Linux systems beyond basic troubleshooting and network connectivity.
We provide specifications for a recommended configuration for new computer purchases. Although we strongly encourage everyone to select the recommended configuration, we realize that your individual research and reaching needs may require a different configuration. The easiest way to make sure your new system meets our recommendations is to submit your purchase request online. For more information about each option, select the appropriate link.
You can now order systems from Dell for your personal use online at Dell's Premier site, the same site where students can purchase discounted systems. Please note that you will need your Olin logon and password to access the Dell site.
