Setup Outlook 2003 to work without VPN (RPC over HTTP)
If you have previously used Outlook 2003 to connect to your Olin mailbox remotely, you have had to use the VPN Client to connect to the mail server. With Outlook 2003 and the recent upgrade of our mail server, you can now configure Outlook 2003 to work without using a VPN client. Instead all of the communications with the server are routed over a secure tunnel using the same ports used for secure web sites.
To use this feature, you must be using Windows XP and have installed either Service Pack 2 (available late August) or Service Pack 1 (SP1) with the Q331320 hotfix. You can install SP1 by going to Windows Update. You can download and install the Q331320 hotfix from the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article.
