Transfer Large Files with Dropbox
The Dropbox system provides simple and secure way to transfer files that are too large for email. Our email system limits attachments to 20 MB, and other systems have even lower limits. By using Dropbox you also help keep your mailbox and your recipient's mailbox from growing too large from all of the attachments you send back and forth. Dropbox also lets the recipient wait to download the file when it is convenient for them.
Both WUSTL and external users can use the Dropbox server to transfer files. WUSTL users can logon and drop off a file for anyone. External users can only drop off files for people with @wustl.edu email addresses and pick up files that have been left for them. Instructions are provided for both WUSTL and External Guest Users
- Maximum dropoff is 5 GB. Please note that Opera is the only browser that can upload files larger than 2 GB. This ia limitation of the other browsers, not Dropbox.
- Files are purged after 14 days
- Consider using file encryption if you are transferring sensitive data
- Transfer of illegal or copyrighted materials is not allowed
