Olin Business School Graduation Recognition Ceremonies – May Undergraduates

The Undergraduate Graduation Recognition Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in the Athletic Complex, Field House. The Undergraduate keynote speaker for this event is TBD. The student speaker is TBD. A reception immediately follows in the Knight Hall Atrium.

Arrival and Seating
Plan to arrive at the Athletic Complex as soon as possible after the conclusion of the commencement exercises at the Brookings Quadrangle. The Olin ceremony begins no later than 11:30 a.m. For parking informatmion, click this link https://parking.wustl.edu/services/campus-events/commencement/ .

First, pick up your name card at the tables in Sumers Gym elevated track. The card has three purposes: it shows your name as it will be read during the ceremony, your permanent email, and the mailing address where the photographer will send any photos that you may order. Please confirm the accuracy of your name and post-graduation address, noting any corrections. Be careful not to misplace your name card, as you will need it for the ceremony. See information for All Graduates.

You do not need to take a program, as one will be provided at your seat. Volunteers will direct you into line for the procession. You should plan to be in line by 11:20 a.m. Degree candidates will not line up in alphabetical order, but in two lines. The student marshal and award winners will lead the procession of graduates into the Field House. See Ceremony Map (*PDF 60K).

The Ceremony
After a brief welcome, the guest speaker will be introduced, he/she will then deliver the Olin keynote address. Next, your elected student speaker will deliver his/her speech and present the Reid Teaching Awards. Then, student awards will be presented. Students receiving awards should walk up to the stage to receive their award after their name has been called. Please use the stairs to your right as you are facing the stage. After receiving your award, continue to walk across the stage, exit on the left, and return to your seat.

Conferring of Degrees
A Row Monitor wearing a red lanyard will signal your row when it's time to stand and proceed to the stage. One row at a time starting with the first row of Section One, students will proceed to the steps on the right of the stage. The first row will be led by the Student Marshal. Section One will graduate first, followed by Section Two. Please form an orderly line to prevent blocking any guests' view of the stage, particularly those sitting on the lower bleacher seats.

As your turn approaches on the stage, hand your name card to Lanna Skadden so that Steve Malter can announce your name and degree(s). After your name has been read, walk to center stage to receive your diploma cover. Your picture will be taken at this time.

Proceed down the stairs on the left side of the stage. Turn right and stop in front of the flags. A photographer will take two photos of you holding your diploma cover. Finally, return to your seat by entering your row at the end opposite from where you exited.

Graduates are to remain seated until all degrees are awarded. The ceremony is complete when all stage participants and graduates have recessed from the gym.

After the Ceremony - Diploma Pick-up
When the ceremony is finished, recess out of the Field House and join your family at the reception in the Knight Hall Atrium. Diplomas will be available for pickup during the reception in the Active Learning Lab, BH 330, on the third floor. Any diploma not collected during the reception will be held in the Student Records Office, Women’s Building, Room 50. Diplomas that are not picked up in a timely fashion will be mailed to the address listed on your Intent to Graduate form.
